The CCREEE signs three-year MoU with CARILEC

The Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE) and the St. Lucia-based Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to cooperate and share technical data, information and knowledge related to the region’s energy sector.

The three-year MoU was signed by The CCREEE’s Executive Director, Dr Gary Jackson and CARILEC’s Executive Director, Dr Cletus Bertin, on August 14, 2023. This MoU is significant for the region as CARILEC represents 35 utilities that play an important role in achieving the sustainable energy targets set by CARICOM heads of government of 47% of electricity generation from renewable energy sources by 2027. Together, The CCREEE and CARILEC will leverage their expertise and the latest technologies and innovations to promote sustainable energy goals for the Caribbean and to achieve the vision of a sustainable and energy-independent region.

Through the MoU, the agencies have also agreed to explore and implement activities in areas of common interest and priorities in the energy sector, including:

  • Institutional strengthening
  • Capacity-building and awareness-raising
  • Training, research, development and innovation
  • Technology and knowledge transfer related to power sector policies, markets and region-appropriate technologies and engineering for energy efficiency, energy management, and renewable energy, and
  • Promoting diversity and inclusion within the energy sector to correct historical imbalances and provide equal opportunities for all individuals, regardless of gender, age, or ethnicity.
