Spain supports the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE)

31 October 2016, Bridgetown, Barbados

The Government of Spain has approved financial support to the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE).

Mr. Al Binger, Interim-Director of CCREEE, welcomes “the Spanish support as an important vehicle to accelerate the sustainable energy and climate resilience transformation in the Caribbean”.

Apart from institutional strengthening, the Spanish contribution will co-fund an online capacity-building program, the Island Women Open Network (IWON), a regional waste to energy program and the empowerment of innovative domestic sustainable energy entrepreneurs.

CCREEE was established by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in Bridgetown, Barbados, in October 2015, with technical and financial support of SIDS DOCK, UNIDO and the Austrian Development Agency (ADA). The center is part of a wider SDG-7 Partnership, which aims at the creation of a network of regional sustainable energy centres for Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
