SUMMARY:EU CARIBBEAN – Sustainable Energy Conference
DESCRIPTION:This high-level event is a two-day joint initative of the EU and CARICOM/CARIFORUM\, designed to foster partnerships between the EU\, the Caribbean\, development partners and the private sector. The event is expected to unfold the potential of the Caribbean region and leverage investment towards achieving the region’s ambitious renewable energy goals. \nThe event will take place in Barbados\, and it aims to: \n\npromote a conducive regulatory and institutional environment for sustainable energy in the Caribbean;\nBring together the EU\, Caribbean countries\, donors and the private sector to identify the opportunities for increased cooperation including business opportunities;\nIdentify financial mechanisms for investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency;\nShowcase renewable energy experiences\, services and technologies from island experiences in both Caribbean and EU;\nThe Forum will include panel discussions\, B2B meetings and an exhibition.\n\nOn the first day\, the Prime Minister of Barbados His Excellency Freundel Stuart will lead the high level representation from the Caribbean countries. The Conference will present: \n\nLatest policy developments in the Caribbean that support increased investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency;\nNew financing instruments that help de-risk renewable investments\, such as the new Electrification Financing Initiative ElectriFI;\nInnovative technology showcase of solutions specifically designed for renewable energy on islands.\n\nOn the second day\, the Business Opportunities Forum will highlight key areas of interest especially for the private sector in investing in renewable energy as well as energy efficiency. \nBy bringing together key figures in the development and energy field such as EU Commissioner Neven Mimica\, SG of CARIFORUM Irwin LaRoque\, PM of Barbados Freundel Stuart\, DG of IRENA Adnan Amin\, this event will be the ‘launch pad’ for a solid\, long-term cooperation between the Caribbean and the EU in the sustainable energy arena. \nMore information: http://eu-caribbeanenergyconference.eu/
