SUMMARY:Solar Made Simple: Access Assistance to Develop Your Solar PV Project
DESCRIPTION:For translation into French and Dutch\, please scroll down the page. \nThe CCREEE PPF provides technical assistance services to make developing your Solar PV project simple\, so you can focus on making cents (or dollars) from the sun!  \nRamping up solar photovoltaic (PV) deployment is one way that businesses can build competitiveness and resilience. To help companies secure their future energy supplies\, the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE) is opening a window of opportunity. The CCREEE’s Project Preparation Facility (PPF) provides project development support to the Caribbean and is now launching a technology-specific call for submissions for solar PV projects within the region.   \nThe CCREEE PPF seeks to bridge the gap between project concept and implementation by addressing the technical barriers to sustainable energy development in the Caribbean. Through support from the Technical Assistance Programme for Sustainable Energy in the Caribbean and the Austrian Development Agency\, PPF provides technical support to sustainable project developers and beneficiaries in the Caribbean.  The CCREEE has also partnered with GET.invest and PFAN in delivering support to promising sustainable energy projects. The CCREEE PPF provides support to project owners and developers through advisory services\, technical assistance\, and financial match–making. Our PPF services\, tailored to meet the needs of regional project developers\, investors\, financial institutions\, and the public sector include:   \n\nBusiness plan refinement \nProject financial modelling and documentation   \nTechnical validation and feasibility studies    \nEnvironmental and social impact assessments  \nEquity offer terms development  \n\n\nFinancier introduction   \n\nApplicants from organizations in public\, private and non-profit sectors are welcome. Project developers\, project owners\, and project beneficiaries can apply. The critical criteria are that the applicant entity:   \n\nseeks to deploy solar photovoltaic technology; \nhas identified the energy off-taker to be served (whether the grid or a particular load at a facility); \nhas identified a location for installation with legal access rights secured or with a reasonable expectation thereof.  \n\nAll applications to the PPF are to be made online through the CCREEE PPF Application Portal hosted by Climate Invest. The online application consists of an application form and two mandatory project documents: a Project Proposal and an Executive Summary. Further guidance can be found at the CCREEE PPF Application Portal: https://ccreee.org/ppf .   \nApplicants are encouraged to include a financial model or preliminary assessment of a project’s economic viability\, though this is not mandatory.   \n Building the Regional Energy Workforce: PV Associate Certification   \nOne of the major barriers to the advancement of sustainable energy remains the number of skilled practitioners with practical\, certified skills. The CRREEE PPF will be temporarily expanding its service offerings to address this need.  The CCREEE PPF will make available a limited number of scholarships for certification in solar PV installation through the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP)\, administered by the University of the West Indies. NABCEP certification is a preferred qualification for solar PV installers in North America.   \nProject proponents who are interested in accessing NABCEP PV Associate certification are encouraged to indicate their interest in their application for PPF support. Available scholarships for NABCEP Associate certification are limited to one per project team\, and are awarded through an evaluation process and therefore selection by the CCREEE team. The selection criteria for the NABCEP PV Associate certification scholarships is as follows:   \n\nA prospective applicant should have a clear demonstration of need\, i.e. a preference for not-for-profit beneficiaries.  \nA strong preference would be given to first-time project developers\, who would benefit the most from the capacity building opportunity.  \nPreference would be given to PPF applicants whose proposed project would serve a social need.  \nAdditionally\, the individual nominated for the NABCEP training must be an integral part of the project’s team. The candidate should have a relevant technical background (engineering\, electrical installation or any other related background) and possess experience in renewable energy system design and/or installation\, particularly in solar PV.

SUMMARY:Caribbean Energy Statistics and Information Conference
DESCRIPTION:CARICOM Member States are making good progress in the adoption of energy efficiency applications and renewable energy technologies\, however\, there is a need to ensure that decisions and planning are supported by fact based scenarios and information. The availability of energy data\, statistics and information\, that is of the requisite quantity and quality\, has been identified as critical for decision-making on the policies\, regulations and investments that are necessary for meeting the C SERMS objectives and targets. \nThe absence of data has been highlighted as one of the major challenges for public and private institutions to provide decision-support that is based on empiricism\, which effectively erodes the confidence and effectiveness in energy planning\, in general\, and renewable energy integration\, in particular\, within the region. To address this\, the CARICOM Secretariat and the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in collaboration with development partners have developed a Programme of Work for the enhancement of energy data\, statistics and information within the Region. \nThe Caribbean Energy Statistics and Information Conference taking place March 21st – 23rd 2022\, will feature the launch of CARICOM Energy Information System (eisCARICOM) and CARICOM Energy Knowledge Hub (CEKH) Data Portal with R3EAD Application\, trainings and presentations on energy statistics and gender in the energy space. \nThe event’s launch will be live streamed on our social media platforms on Monday March 21st 2022 at 9:00am. The remainder of the conference is by invitation only.

SUMMARY:Geothermal Webinar: Providing Opportunities Beyond Electricity
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Caribbean region is seeking to strengthen and expand its productive sectors as we move to recover from the impacts of recent global events such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Businesses are not only looking to reduce operating costs but are looking to reinvent the economy with opportunities for new\, efficient products and services for increased revenues. Geothermal resources could help drive economic growth in the Eastern Caribbean. Whilst efforts have focused on the generation of cheaper\, reliable electricity from our geothermal sources\, it may be even more beneficial to explore the use of geothermal resources to support businesses who have a demand for heating and cooling. \nAcross the world\, geothermal resources remain relatively untapped but in recent years significant progress in geothermal development for both electricity and direct uses have helped transform the economies in developing countries in Africa and Latin America. Similar success in the Caribbean would make our economies more competitive and propel us to improved standards of living. In light of this\, a recent study of three Caribbean islands\, Dominica\, Montserrat and Nevis\, examined opportunities in geothermal development beyond electricity generation for the region. \nCan geothermal energy support new industries\, lower the cost of production\, and open new export markets? What new products and jobs can the tourism\, manufacturing\, and agriculture sectors directly benefit from the development of the region’s geothermal resources? Can new geothermal-based opportunities for food and beverage manufacture\, refrigeration\, and building cooling\, spas\, and hot pools accelerate our geothermal development projects and support optimal use? How can local businesses and entrepreneurs take advantage of these new opportunities? Join us as we examine potential direct uses of geothermal applications for the region and identify immediate next steps to realise these opportunities for a stronger economy for all our citizens. \n  \nRegister
