SUMMARY:CCREEE Ocean Conference Side Event: “Energy services from organic waste for productive uses – integrated waste management solutions for coastal\, marine and freshwater protection in Small Island Developing States (SIDS)”
DESCRIPTION:At the margins of the Ocean Conference\, the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE)\, the SIDS Sustainable Energy and Climate Resilience Organization (SIDS DOCK)\, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Energy Programme are jointly organizing the side event  “Energy services from organic waste for productive uses – integrated waste management solutions for coastal\, marine and freshwater protection in Small Island Developing States (SIDS)”. \nThe event takes place on 8 June 2017\, 11.00 to 12.30\, Room A\, and is a concrete contribution to the Partnership Dialogue 2: Managing\, protecting\, conserving and restoring marine and costal ecosystems. The event intends to raise the awareness on the important nexus between energy\, waste management and costal\, marine and fresh water protection in Small Island Developing States – particularly in the Caribbean. The event is organized with support of the Governments of Austria and Spain. \nThe side event follows-up on the outcomes of the First Caribbean Waste to Energy Technology Expo and Conference\, held in St. George’s\, Grenada from 20 to 23 January 2016. Over 100 senior professionals with expertise in energy\, climate change\, environment and waste management gathered at the Grenada Trade Centre to share lessons learned and perspectives on Waste-to-Energy (WtE) solutions that are appropriate for SIDS. CCREEE has also contributed with the input paper “Addressing the Nexus: Energy Services from Organic Waste for Productive Uses – Integrated waste management solutions for coastal\, marine and freshwater protection in the Caribbean” to the Ocean Conference.

SUMMARY:EU CARIBBEAN – Sustainable Energy Conference
DESCRIPTION:This high-level event is a two-day joint initative of the EU and CARICOM/CARIFORUM\, designed to foster partnerships between the EU\, the Caribbean\, development partners and the private sector. The event is expected to unfold the potential of the Caribbean region and leverage investment towards achieving the region’s ambitious renewable energy goals. \nThe event will take place in Barbados\, and it aims to: \n\npromote a conducive regulatory and institutional environment for sustainable energy in the Caribbean;\nBring together the EU\, Caribbean countries\, donors and the private sector to identify the opportunities for increased cooperation including business opportunities;\nIdentify financial mechanisms for investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency;\nShowcase renewable energy experiences\, services and technologies from island experiences in both Caribbean and EU;\nThe Forum will include panel discussions\, B2B meetings and an exhibition.\n\nOn the first day\, the Prime Minister of Barbados His Excellency Freundel Stuart will lead the high level representation from the Caribbean countries.
