2020 Internship Programme Launched

About the 2020 Internship Programme
With the aim of building capacity within the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE) has launched a call for interns who wish to gain experience in the energy sector.

This year’s Internship Programme builds on last year’s where 23 persons were recruited across 20 Caribbean territories to support the region’s energy transition. The CCREEE intends to build on last year’s successful programme with interns hosted  across all CARICOM Member States. Speaking to this year’s programme the CCREEE Executive Director Dr Gary Jackson stated, “supporting the enhancement and strengthening of skills and experiences for our Caribbean people is extremely important to the CCREEE – especially youth-focused programmes – with a view to create an enabling environment for the generation that follows us.  It therefore gives me great pleasure for the CCREEE to again serve the region in this way, knowing that the interns themselves should feel very proud to assist in the development of the CARICOM Energy Knowledge Hub.”

A lack of a comprehensive, accurate and up-to-date data on the energy market in Caribbean countries is an obstacle not only to long-term planning and decision making, but also to socio-economic development and environmental protection in the region; a challenge the CARICOM Energy Knowledge Hub (CEKH) seeks to address. The CEKH is an information and knowledge management framework under development to ensure appropriate, reliable and high-quality information is available and accessible within the region. Energy Report Cards, hosted within the CEKH, will also provide necessary data and information for the high-quality sustainable energy projects envisioned to inform the CCREEE’s Project Preparation Facility, for the region.

Desired Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree or on course for completion of one by December 2020;
  • Interest in the energy sector and willingness to learn about the socio-economic, technical and environmental aspects of the energy landscape; studies in sustainable energy, environmental sciences or related fields are an asset but not a requirement;
  • National or resident of one of the relevant countries;
  • Proficiency in English.
